Borthwick Jewelry has a large selection of bridal settings in white and yellow gold with or without a center stone; loose lab and natural diamonds; gold and silver jewelry with or with out stones and for the rock hounds we have Geodes, Selenite and different types of crystals for you too! If we don’t have what you want we can always order something in from one of our vendors.

At Borthwick Jewelry, we know jewelry is expensive and very personal, so we offer appraisal services . When you come in, the staff can give you a free verbal appraisal or, for a fee, a written appraisal for your insurance. We understand that it can be devastating for a cherished piece to go missing. The staff here would love to help make the claim process easier and less stressful.

A trade-up program for those customers who purchase a diamond from us. This is different from a trade-in program. We value your original purchase, so if you want to get a larger diamond whatever your original purchase amount was, you get that amount credited; you’d have to double the value.  For example, if you originally spent $1000 then the new purchase would be $2000, but the first $1000 is paid for.

Borthwick’s has 2 jewelers on site 5 days per week and have over 40 years of experience with designing and repairing jewelry. All jewelry repair is done on-site. We endeavor to get our repairs done expertly and fast.

We purchase scrap gold for the current gold price. If you’re making a purchase we can apply the value of your scrap gold.

We offer our customers credit options through Wells Fargo and My Synchrony. On approval of credit, an item purchased under $1000 gets 6 months interest free! If the purchase is over $1000 we offer interest free for 12 months.

We offer a layaway program. It’s 10% down and 10% per month until it’s paid in full. We also accept Debit, Credit, cash and local checks.

  • Two Jewelers In House: We have two jewelers who both work in the store. With 24 years combined experience your jewelry will be professionally fixed within a few days.
  • Full Service Jewelry Repair: We fix: Rings, Pendants, Chains, Earrings, Gold, Platinum, or Silver, Antiques or Modern Styles, Chains soldered, Watch links adjusted, Ring sizing, Prongs replaced, Tips rebuilt, Shanks replaced, Stones tightened, pearls restrung, and more…
  • Repairs Done In Store: 99% of every jewelry repair is done on site by our two jewelers. This takes the worry out of getting your jewelry repaired as it doesn’t need to be shipped out and gets locked up at night.
  • Laser Welder: We have a state of the art laser welder which can accurately weld gold and silver jewelry with a laser beam. This helps keep the heat down on the item and allows us to weld those hard to get places. With this new technology repairs can be done faster and more efficiently, giving us the ability to have your repairs done usually by the next day. We are one of the few jewelers in Whatcom County that have this machine which allows us to do certain repairs other jewelers aren’t able to do. In fact two local jewelers come in weekly to borrow our laser welder because they are our friends and we like to help them.
  • Honesty: With over 20 years in business in a small town, you know we are honest, reputable, and want to fix your jewelry perfectly. We like going home and feeling good about what we do. We would never dream of doing anything dishonest. Our integrity is more important than anything.
  • Eye Glasses: We have the ability to fix eye glasses while you wait for $25. They are warrantied forever. However, titanium ( if the arm bends easily) glasses cannot be repaired.
  • White Gold Plating: We rhodium plate jewelry while you wait for a small charge. All white gold rings are rhodium plated before you buy them to make them look super white. You will find if you rhodium your ring twice a year, it will look brand new everyday.
  • Free Ring Cleaning and Inspection of your fine jewelry: We’ll check your prongs to make sure they’re holding your diamond tight. We’ll check all solder points so you know your diamond is safe and secure.Stop in right now! Its FREE!

Watch Batteries and Bands

  • Watch Batteries and Bands: We professionally install watch batteries while you wait. This includes oiling the gaskets, installing the battery, and setting the time for you.
  • We install, sell, and adjust metal, leather, and rubber watch bands.
  • We do not fix broken watches: this specifically requires watch makers. Watch makers are very hard to find as many people buy a new watch when their old one breaks.

We Sell Gold and Silver Jewelry

  • Trade Up: We offer trade in on any diamond or gold items. If they were not bought here, we calculate what the trade in value would be. If you bought them we will give you exactly what you paid, including tax towards a new item of at least double the price.
  • Diamond Trade Up: When you buy your diamond at Borthwick, we will apply exactly what you paid including tax toward a bigger diamond of at least twice the size.
  • Free Gift Wrapping: To make it easier for our customers, we offer free gift wrapping with any jewelry purchase. Not only do we offer, we want to make the presentation incredible for you. We push you to let us wrap it for you:) several people have said they come here because we are so friendly and they love the gift wrapping.
  • One week return or exchange: Any item bought from Borthwick Jewelry Inc., Inc can be returned or exchanged within one week after you present it to your loved one for a full refund or exchange. We have found within a week people know if they like it or not. We feel wearing a ring for five months and returning it “as some stores do”, is unacceptable because after they polish it someone else will buy it thinking its new. This is wrong, the ring is used, it has bad juju and possibly many of the prongs could be worn badly. We sell brand new rings that have never been worn.

Appraisals

  • Insurance Company Compliant: All our appraisals are legal documents for insurance companies. We provide two copies with a full description and a picture. One copy for your insurance company and one for yourself.
  • Time frame: These appraisals usually take one business day to one week, depending on the time of year. We prefer if you make an appointment for a certain day of the week, and then typically we could have it the next day.
  • Waiting in the store for appraisal to be finished: If you want to wait while we do your appraisal, be prepared to sit for many hours because we have to help customers when they come in. It takes a lot of time to determine the quality and the value of every stone in the ring. Sometimes we have to call vendors to get an exact value, where it be diamonds, rubies, sapphires or any gemstones.
  • Value: We like to give a realistic value to remake the piece. Many companies over inflate or under inflate the value of the item. It is important for it to be valued high enough to replace the item, yet not so high that you pay big insurance bill forever.
  • EGL USA/GIA Certificate: We can get your diamond certified through EGL USA or GIA in Los Angeles California. This requires removing your diamond from the setting and mailing it either lab with insurance. The cost varies depending on the size of the diamond.

Warranty

  • We warranty everything we sell
  • We warranty diamonds under a quarter carat: We hand pick high quality mountings to minimize the risk of any diamond coming out. However, a diamond occasionally comes out and we can replace it for free. Usually within one business day. Many customers come in and pay us to replace their small diamond that fell out even though they have a warranty at a different store. They tell us they don’t want to wait three weeks to get their ring back because they know we replace their diamond often the same day.
  • Non-Warranty Items: If you drop your ring into the blender or run over it with a truck expect to pay a fee to get your ring fixed.

Conflict Free Diamond Sourcing

  • We at Borthwick Jewelry are very concerned about how we buy our diamonds. Jewelers did not know there was civil wars happening in Africa in the 1990’s and we were as shocked as everybody to learn about blood diamonds. We do everything in our power to buy conflict free diamonds
  • Many people in Africa work for legitimate diamond miners and make a good living for their families. The global diamond industry employs some 10 million people directly and indirectly all over the world, including Africa. The vast majority of the world’s diamonds come from sources that use the revenues generated by diamonds to aid their national development. Given good governance and appropriate laws, diamonds are a vital source of revenue for building infrastructure and essential social services such as hospitals and schools.

    Here is proof that our three biggest vendors sell conflict free diamonds

  • Stuller: Stuller sources the majority of its diamonds directly from sources that manufacture rough diamonds from Canada, South Africa, Russia, Botswana and Namibia.
  • No Conflict Diamonds: We are committed to selling diamonds ethically and with integrity, giving you confidence in the diamonds you purchase. We believe it is completely unacceptable to tolerate conflict diamonds and/or human suffering in any way and we fully support the Kimberley Process. Stuller Inc. offers this commitment to you. In turn, it can act as your commitment to your customers. All rough and polished diamonds sold by Stuller Inc. comply with the Kimberley Process. The Kimberley Process ensures that rough diamonds are:
    • Exported and imported with a government validated Kimberly Process certificate stating the diamonds are conflict-free.
    • Transported between signatory countries in a sealed and tamper-proof container.
    • Sold with a statement from the seller (known as a warranty) on all invoices guaranteeing that the diamonds being sold are conflict-free.
  • Camelot Bridal: -On the bottom of every invoice this is typed out:
    “The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. The seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds. Diamonds supplied have not been obtained in violation of applicable national law and/or sanctions and have not originated from Marange, Zimbabwe.
  • Allison Kaufman: On the bottom of every invoice this is typed out:
    “The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. The seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds.

We Buy Scrap Gold / SILVER

  • We Do Not Buy Coins: No Gold Coins or Ingots, No Silver Coins or Ingots. Please go to a Coin Store as actually values can vary depending on the Coin.
  • Scrap Gold: We buy scrap gold jewelry that is 8kt, 10kt, 14kt, 18kt, 22kt, or 24kt. When you bring it in, we separate it into the different karats of gold, weigh it and depending on the gold price, we calculate how much per gram you will get.
     
  • Gold Teeth: We buy dental gold. We don’t mind if there’s a tooth in it. We have a way of calculating its weight. Gold teeth are generally a low karat so the tooth won’t dent when you bite something. The value of the gold tends to be $20 – $40 per tooth ball parking.
  • Natural Nuggets: We buy natural nuggets
  • Scrap Silver: We buy scrap sliver jewelry. When you bring it in, we will weigh it and depending on the silver price, calculate your price per gram. We recommend not selling scrap silver as it is more valuable in jewelry form.

Layaway– Any merchandise at Borthwick Jewelry can be financed through a ten month layaway program.

  • To start a layaway, you must have 10% down and make monthly payments of 10% for ten months. We will hold your item until it is payed off.
  • This money is completely refundable for up to one week from the day you present it to your loved one. However the only exception is, if you have not made a payment for three consecutive months, your money becomes a store credit and is not refundable for cash
